Dr. Betty Walter-Shea recently was named Interim Associate Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, effective through June 30.

Walter-Shea will be responsible for faculty advancement programming, especially as it relates to early-career faculty with CASNR appointments. She also will oversee graduate fellowship opportunities and strategic planning for graduate education. She will assist in initiatives to build a community of scholars, including graduate students, post-doctoral scholars and faculty members and will oversee the College’s graduate fellowships and on-line programming.

“I look forward to meeting with junior faculty to identify ways CASNR can assist them in developing their professional lives, particularly in regards to teaching and learning,” Walter-Shea said.

During her term, Walter-Shea also will examine opportunities and barriers to statewide partnerships between two- and four-year institutions of higher learning to institute increased accessibility, student transfers, student success and cross-campus academic offerings.

Walter-Shea will work closely with the college’s administrative staff, deans and directors to accomplish these goals.

“I am confident that this will be a highly stimulating and professionally rewarding experience,” said Interim Dean Tiffany Heng-Moss. “There are many opportunities ahead and I could not be more pleased that you will be serving at this critical time.”

Walter-Shea will continue her role as a professor and researcher with the School of Natural Resources half time through the end of her term.
