Faculty, staff awarded for science art at NanoDays

The Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience held its Spring 2012 Science Art competition to celebrate the aesthetic appeal and creativity of nanoscience. Original artwork received was in the form of a static visual image that represented a nanoscience structure or phenomenon.

Current students, faculty, or staff members affiliated with the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience were eligible to participate.

Entries were based on calculations, on imaging data, or on a conceptual model. The judging focused on aesthetic quality effectiveness of communication or representation of nanoscience.

Artworks by individual winners and runners-up were displayed and given awards at the NanoDays exhibition on March 24 at Westfield Gateway Mall.

Winners were:

First Place: Yang Gao, Electrical Engineering

Second Place: Matt Mitchell, Electrical Engineering

Third Place: Thomas Guillemet – Mechanical and Materials Engineering

Honorable Mentions: Jaeil Bai - Chemistry,
Mak Koten and Pinaki Mukherjee - Mechanical and Materials Engineering,
Alexandra Fursina - Chemistry/Physics,
Wei Xiong - Electrical Engineering.
