The School of Music presents “Evenings of Dance,” an annual concert of modern dance works by faculty and guests of the UNL dance program directed by associate professor of dance Susan Levine.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. April 19-21, and 3 p.m. April 22 in the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theater. Tickets, available at the door one hour before a performance, are $20 general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens.

“Evenings of Dance” gives an opportunity for professional choreographers to present new and repertory work on the UNL students and faculty. This year’s concert features work by guest artists Jeff Curtis and Jenna Riegel, and works by UNL modern dance faculty, Levine and Noelle Bohaty.

In addition, two student works by senior dance majors Amanda Byrne and Teaya Smith will also be featured. Both works were chosen for presentation at the American College Dance Festival earlier this year.

The concert subject matter ranges from biographical studies, hip-hop infused modern dance, explorations of the inner world of the dancers and the start of a collaboration between Levine, the prize-winning poet Shane Book and the senior dance majors.

“As Twyla Tharp once said, ‘Modern is more,’” Levine said. “We strive to make our concerts an expression of the boundless possibilities of that art form.”
