Romantic, dark comedies open at the Ross

The films "Sightseers" and "Love Is All You Need" open July 12 at the Mary Ripema Ross Media Arts Center. Both films show through July 18.

Directed by Golden Globe and Oscar-winner Susanne Bier, "Love Is All You Need" stars Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm.

Philip (played by Brosnan), an Englishman living in Denmark, is a lonely, middle-aged widower and estranged single father. Ida (Dyrholm) is a Danish hairdresser recuperating from an illness and a husband who left her for a younger woman.

The fates of Philip and Ida intertwine as they embark on a trip to Italy to attend the wedding of their children.

"Sightseers," directed by Ben Wheatley, is a road trip movie that straddles the line between dark comedy and horror.

In the film, Chris (played by Steve Oram) wants to show Tina (Alice Lowe) his world via a journey through the British Isles in an Abbey Oxford Caravan. The adventure begins to fade once the couple hits the road thanks to litterbugs, noisy teenagers, pre-booked caravan sites and Tina's meddling mother. The shattered dream sends Chris and anyone who ribs him the wrong way over a jagged edge.
