Geske Showcase features documentary duo

Filmmakers Susan Muska and Greta Olafsdottir are featured in the Norman A. Geske Film/Video Showcase, March 25-29 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

The duo will discuss their films, "The Brandon Teena Story" and "Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement," at 7:30 p.m., March 26, 28 and 29.

The showcase will feature multiple screenings of four documentaries created by Muska and Olafsdottir. The schedule is:

Admission is at regular Ross prices. A retrospective pass, good for all screenings, is available for $15 general admission, $12 senior citizens and military, and $10 for students and Friends of the Ross.

Muska and Olafsdottir produced and directed the award-winning documentary, "The Brandon Teena Story." The film won best documentary and the Siegel Saule Audience Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film also earned Muska and Olafsdottir a nomination for the Emmy for Excellence in Investigative Journalism.

"The Forgotten Faces of War" received the jury award for best documentary at the Astra International Documentary Festival. It was also part of a two-year campaign by Amnesty International to stop violence against women.

"Edie and Thea" is the duo's latest documentary, completed in June 2009. They are working on a new documentary about Daniel and Phillip Berrigan.

Muska and Olafsdottir are instructors at the Parsons School of Design. Olafsdottir is a documentary and short-films consultant for the Icelandic Film Centre.
