Sue Gildersleeve has been selected as the new director of University Housing and Dining Services following a national search.

Juan Franco, vice chancellor for Student Affairs, made the announcement. Gildersleeve has been serving as interim director since former housing director Doug Zatechka retired late in 2010.

Gildersleeve has served as associate director for two of Housing's operational divisions since 2000 when she was hired to oversee the Housing Division as associate director for business and fiscal operations, later becoming associate director for business and administrative operations. Earlier in her career, from 1986-1994, she worked as Housing's assistant director for business services. She has overseen resident contracts and accounts for more than 7,000 annual contracts, managed occupancy and inventory, human resources and payroll for more than 900 employees, and managed the unit's $53 million budget. Her responsibilities also have included providing information services and computer networking support to the unit, administering financing of facilities master plan projects including new construction and remodeling.

With a degree and background in accounting, Gildersleeve also previously worked at Nebraska Educational Telecommunications as a network controller and fiscal officer and assistant general manager for administration and finance.

"Sue's leadership and experience in UNL Housing is important, particularly at this critical time, with new residence halls in the planning stages," Franco said. "We felt that filling Doug's shoes after his 34 years in Nebraska Housing and Dining Services would be difficult, but Sue is up to the task. We look forward to her continued leadership and oversight in these ever-changing areas of housing and dining."

Gildersleeve began her permanent directorship role on Aug. 8.
