Tuscaloosa 'Alternative Service Break' info sessions are Nov. 15-16

The UNL Center for Civic Engagement is sponsoring an "Alternative Service Break" to Tuscaloosa, Ala., from Jan. 1-8. The trip will cost around $200. Information sessions are 5 p.m., Nov. 15 and noon, Nov. 16 in the Nebraska Union.

The trip is open to faculty, staff and students. Faculty and staff will serve as trip leaders.

Applications, available in 222 Nebraska Union, are due Dec. 2.

Tuscaloosa was hit by a mile-wide F4 tornado that leveled sections of the city in April 2011. UNL volunteers will serve in the Tuscaloosa area through clean-up and rebuilding efforts. They will also participate in cultural activities in Tuscaloosa and Memphis, Tenn. The trip cost includes housing, food, travel and a T-shirt.
