Special Garden Project, Jazzy Mix Zinnia

Jazzy Mix Zinnia is this year's Nebraska 4-H special garden project.4-H families are invited to participate in a special garden project growing Jazzy Mix Zinnia. 20 seed packets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. TSC Paper Clover Campaign Through April 24

100% of each dollar goes to 4-H. Last spring, $512 was raised for 4-H at the two TSC stores in Lincoln!The Spring 4-H Paper Clover Campaign is taking place through April 24. Shoppers at both Lincoln Tractor Supply Company stores have the opportunity to support 4-H by purchasing paper clovers for a $1 or more at checkout. All funds raised will be donated to 4-H.

 

Clover College Registration Opens May 2

One of the 58 workshops at Clover College is the 4-day Clover Kids Day Camp for youth ages 6 & 7.4-H Clover College will be 58 workshops offered June 14-17 at the Lancaster Extension Education Center. The schedule will be published in the May Nebline which is due to be mailed and posted online April 21. Registration opens May 2 for currently enrolled 4-H'ers. Classes fill up quickly!

 

Horse Dressage Schooling Show, May 7

The Esprit De Corps 4-H club is sponsoring a Spring Fling Dressage Schooling Show as a fundraiser/clinic. It will be held Saturday, May 7 at the Lancaster Event Center – Pavilion 3. Open to youth and adults. Registrations are due April 25.

Sheep & Meat Goat Weigh-In and Tag Day, May 17

4-H/FFA members planning to exhibit market sheep and meat goats need to have their lambs and goats officially tagged and weighed on Tuesday, May 17, 6–8 p.m. at the Lancaster Event Center - Pavilion 2. For more information, call Cole at 402-441-7180.

 

Interview Regional Contest, May 26

At the 4-H Interview Contest, youth will use their 4-H and life experiences to write a resumé and cover letter for one of three job descriptions and participate in a live interview. The 4-H Interview Contest will give 4-H'ers ages 11 & up the opportunity to practice the real-life skill of applying for a job. The regional contest will be held Thursday, May 26, 1–7 p.m. in Norfolk, Neb. Enter by May 12. Contact Tracy at 402-441-7180 to learn more.

 

Horse Identifications Due June 1

Draw your horses markings as accurately as you can. Also, be sure and indicate the horse’s color on the drawing.Each horse which will be shown at Super Fair must be identified on form “4-H Horse Identification Certificate” and submitted to the Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County office by June 1. Form is available at the office as a carbon copy form. If you use the online form, make a copy for yourself.

Horse Judging Contest, June 3

The horse judging contest may consist of four classes of four horses, two halter and two performance, to be judged by 4-H members in the elementary, junior and senior age divisions. The Lancaster County Super Fair 4-H Horse Judging contest will be held on Friday, June 3 at the Lancaster Event Center – Pavilion 3. This is a Super Fair premium event. Life Challenge Contests

4-H Life Challenge Judging Contests help youth learn more about issues related to family and consumer science and entrepreneurship. County-level Junior AND Senior Life Challenge will be held Saturday, June 4, 9 a.m. at the Lancaster Extension Education Center. New 4-H/FFA Livestock Identification Requirements

Paper identification forms are no longer required for Nebraska State Fair or AKSARBEN animals — the DNA will serve as the nomination. All livestock ONLY being shown at county fair will need a paper identification form. See helpful 2016 Lancaster County 4-H Livestock Checklist now online.

Livestock Quality Assurance

All 4-H/FFA members showing market beef, market sheep, market swine, meat and dairy goats, dairy cattle, poultry and rabbits at county fair, State Fair or the AKSARBEN Stock Show must complete the Quality Assurance training.
