We look forward to celebrating our youth and their hard work at this year’s Nebraska State Fair! We have an additional webinar scheduled this Wednesday, July 29, at 1:30pm. An invite was previously sent via the listserv. We will be giving updates on static exhibits and contests during this webinar. Below you will find some additional updates since our last webinar session.
Foods & Horticulture Update
All foods and horticulture exhibits will be exhibited virtually this year, including non-perishable items. Please make sure to include pictures of those exhibits in the virtual exhibit with the Box links provided from Tracy Pracheil previously. We have had several questions about that this week and just wanted to provide clarification.
Quilts of Valor Update
We will be having a Quilts of Valor presentation at the Nebraska State Fair this year, and we are encouraging counties to display these in their county booth spaces. We will not be doing the bed turning this year due to social distancing. Instead, we ask that counties submit 2 pictures to Julie Ochsner at julie.ochsner@unl.edu by August 24. She will put together a virtual presentation to be shown prior to the Quilts of Valor presentation after the third flight of the State 4-H Fashion Show held on Sunday, August 30, in the Raising Nebraska Building. We are asking that counties return the Quilts of Valor and make arrangements to give them to a local recipient following the 2020 Nebraska State Fair.
Horticulture Judging Contest Update
Horticulture Judging contestants will complete the written test portion of the contests online prior to State Fair. There are two versions of the test, a Senior version and an Intermediate version. Contestants will be forwarded the link for the category they registered (if intermediate youth are bumping up to the Senior category, I need to know in advance so I can send the youth the correct link). No resources or reference material should be used while taking the test. The test is set up for one attempt per user. The tests will be available beginning August 13 and will need to be completed by Friday, August 21, 2020. Links for the test will be sent out the email that the youth provided when registering in 4-H Online.
Fashion Show, Presentations, and Other Contests Website Updates
We will continue to update the website as details are finalized. The Nebraska State Fair schedule has been updated this week – https://4h.unl.edu/state-fair-schedule.
As we have stated many times, as you have continued questions, please contact Jill Lingard, Brandy Schulze, or myself. Thank you for your continued commitment to our Nebraska youth!
