We are accepting our next applications for training faculty in Systems Thinking (ST), funded by the USDA. Our ST training program is a collaboration between UNK, Texas A & M Kingsville, and the University of Minnesota. Our ST training program is a collaboration between UNK, Texas A & M Kingsville, and the University of Minnesota. We are nearly complete with the first-year training for our first cohort and are now recruiting our second cohort. There are two levels of involvement in the training: the first is a series of webinars in the summer open to anyone who is interested. The webinars are held live but will be recorded in case individuals are unable to make the live webinars. There is no cap on our enrollment in the webinars, so if you’d just like to “dip your toe in the water” and see what ST is all about, this is a great way to get some base knowledge. The webinars are free.

The second level of involvement is our ST fellowship program. This part of the training extends into the school year and begins with the Armstrong Lectureship (https://krirm.tamuk.edu/systemsthinking/) in Kingsville, Texas from August 10 – 12. The grant from USDA covers all travel for those selected for the fellowship program. During the semester, there are additional webinars (live and recorded) and “local mentorship” as fellows work on an ST-related project for their teaching, research, or outreach. The project is whatever the fellow wants to work on – maybe a lesson plan for a class, an ST model for a grant, an extension program, or something else entirely. Successful completion of the fellowship program results in a stipend to compensate for the fellow’s time and effort. There are a few tasks to complete along the way to receive the stipend, but the time commitment isn’t burdensome and spaced out over the program. We plan to recruit 5 – 6 fellows per campus (15 – 18 total fellows), and this is a great way to meet potential new collaborators.
