PC Prep is a certificate program open to undergraduate students in good standing. Integrating coursework, hands-on experience, and professional development, the program prepares students for international development fieldwork and potential Peace Corps service. Students build four core competencies:
1. Sector-specific skills in one of the following:
Education, Health, Environment, Agriculture, Youth in Development, or Community Economic Development
2. Foreign language proficiency
3. Intercultural competence
4. Professional savvy and leadership
PC Prep students at Nebraska will receive a scholarship of up to $5,000 for studying or interning abroad 1) in a country where Peace Corps volunteers have served, and/or 2) on a program that offers intensive Spanish, French, or other language spoken in Peace Corps host countries.
Upon completion, students will receive a certificate directly from the Peace Corps, a federal agency. While PC Prep graduates are encouraged to apply for Peace Corps service, there is no obligation to apply, and no guarantee of acceptance.
The PC Prep application will open soon, and will be due October 15 to join the program in spring 2022 (March 11 to join the program in fall 2022).
Eligibility:
• Current undergraduate students from any major in good standing. Applications should be submitted at least two semesters before a student’s expected graduation date.
• Students from traditionally underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply, as the Peace Corps aims to have a volunteers corps reflective of the rich diversity of the U.S.
• International students may complete the PC Prep program at Nebraska, but applicants to serve in the Peace Corps must be U.S. citizens.
