COMM 392: Communication and Mentoring (3 credit hours) taught by Dr. Kathy Castle Spring 2022.
Students will (a) learn theories and practices of communication in mentorship (b) learn how to coach peers in public speaking, interpersonal communication competence, and team communication competence and (c) engage in a true experiential learning course that will enable them to get hands on experience working in the Communication Center (d) End the course with a clearly developed and translatable set of mentorship and communication skills that will serve them well across contexts and with concrete experience in the COMM Center to enhance their repertoire of skills and competencies to showcase in job applications and interviews
Finally, and importantly, students who take this course and are successful in it will be invited back to intern in the COMM Center in Fall 2022 to further enhance and broaden their experience and skill development. Because this class is designed to lead into an internship experience, registration is by permission of the instructor and students must apply to be considered. Seating is limited.
