Hello! Your name was given to me as a contact for students who are majoring in Communication Studies or similar field. The Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) Foundation is looking for a summer intern to assist with planning our major annual fundraiser. This would be a fantastic opportunity for an upcoming junior/senior or a new graduate needing experience in this field. As a UNL Communication Studies grad myself – I am excited at the prospect of a student from the program applying to work with us!

Below is a quick overview of the benefits and preferred qualifications of this position. It will a pay $20 per hour and housing is included on campus if needed.

Job Summary
Work as a part-time summer Intern to support the Monument Marathon, a major tourism event, for Scotts Bluff County in the panhandle of Nebraska. Work up to 24 hours per week between May 19, 2025, and August 8, 2025 (these dates are flexible).
About the event: A signature tourism event in Scotts Bluff County in the panhandle of Nebraska. In its 14th year, the race has full and half marathons as well as a 5K and 3-leg half marathon relay. The full and half marathon courses are USATF sanctioned, Boston-qualifying races drawing runners from around the country and world. 65-75% of participants are new to the event each year, making marketing vitally important to the ongoing success of the event. Proceeds support students at Western Nebraska Community College, having raised over $636,000 to date.

Location: Scotts Bluff County has 50,000 residents, the largest populated area in the panhandle of Nebraska. 400 miles west of Lincoln, Nebraska, and 200 miles north of Denver, Colorado. 150 miles from Laramie, Wyoming, and Fort Collins, Colorado. The county is home to beautiful landscapes, outdoor activities, and multiple summer events.

Hours: Minimum of 240 internship hours, worked over 10-12 weeks between May 19 and August 8.
