Brandon Lepard is a Senior Communication Studies Major with minors in Psychology, Economics, and Environmental Studies.
How did you find Communication Studies?
When I came into college, I was undecided. I didn't know what I wanted to do, but what I did know is that I didn't want to get a degree in something I would end up hating down the road after I graduated. After taking Comm 109 my first semester, I talked with my parents about picking Communications Studies, as it has a variety of different opportunities that it can branch off to. That's when I decided that it was the major for me.
What do you like most about being a Communication Studies major?
A lot of what you learn in your classes are applicable to your every day life. A lot of the classes are fun, engaging, and interesting to learn about. I love how most of my classes were smaller classes as well, as I got to meet a lot of really cool people as well as develop closer relationships with my professors.
What has been your favorite class?
Social Identity Communication (Comm 465) was probably my favorite. It was a small, engaging class with a professor, Dr. Soliz, who was very knowledgeable on the subject. It was such an applicable class to see the ways that everyone's different identities, whether it be ethnic, religious, or occupational, all interact with each other. We also talked about a lot of important global issues that I otherwise would not have researched much about.
What are some cool experiences you've had as an undergraduate student at UNL?
It's tough to narrow it down to a few, but I'd definitely say that going on a service trip to Jamaica for a week stands out. It was awesome to be able to spend time helping others while simultaneously being a part of such a unique culture.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to take a gap year to work in Colorado before heading off to grad school.
