Annie Burmeister is a Freshman Communication Studies major with a minor in Leadership Communication.
How did you find Communication Studies?
I originally was a Business major and I was in Colorado this summer with one of my mom's good friends who is a professor there and she was giving me advice about my first semester of college. My end goal was to be a Real Estate Agent, so a business major would be a good major, but why? She asked, why did I pick this? I had no idea what to major in because with Real Estate, you don't need a college degree, but I really wanted to achieve this goal. My mom's friend told me about Communication Studies and I was very interested in it--I had never heard of it before either. She asked me, "why be a business major when Real Estate is all about communication?" I changed my major a few weeks before school started.
What do you like most about being a Communication Studies major?
So far with the Communication classes that I've taken, I LOVE all of the classes! I find them super interesting and the professors are honestly super cool and helpful.
What is your favorite class?
Communication 201 (Social Scientific Research Methods), my teacher has such a positive attitude and is always there to help you. This class is about statistics and research, but she makes it enjoyable!
What are some of the cool experiences you have had as a student at UNL?
I am in Delta Gamma so I have minimal free time with events, volunteering, and clubs. I go to the Newman Center FOCUS Greek, I volunteer at Belmont Elementary for their after school program. I plan to study abroad at Disney World with their communication program one day!
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
Taking my Real Estate test to get my license and end up selling houses:)
