September 14 marked the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), a time to honor the histories, cultures, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Why do we celebrate? Because Hispanic and Latinx communities have shaped—and continue to shape—the story of the United States in powerful ways. From art, music, and literature to science, leadership, and innovation, this month is about recognizing those contributions and celebrating the diversity that enriches our campus and our world.
Here at UNL, Hispanic Heritage Month is a chance to come together, learn, and enjoy traditions that connect us—from food and music to conversation and community.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we are planning the series events over the next two weeks.
