Peace Corps Prep is an undergraduate program that combines university coursework, hands-on experiences, and professional development opportunities with networking and mentorship. Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate from the Peace Corps and a competitive edge when applying for Peace Corps service. Launched in fall 2021, Peace Corps Prep at Nebraska has celebrated a total of 25 certificate recipients, including nine students in spring 2025.

Established in 1961, the Peace Corps aims “to promote world peace and friendship through community-based development and intercultural understanding.” In this post-graduation experience, volunteers work for 27 months in one of six sectors (Education, Health, Environment, Agriculture, Youth in Development, or Community Economic Development), and may also pursue secondary projects. While the Peace Corps uses the term “volunteer,” all expenses are covered and volunteers receive a variety of other benefits.

Interested students should apply by May 15 to join this summer, or by August 15 to join in fall. All undergraduate students in good standing are eligible and should apply at least two semesters prior to graduation. International students may complete Peace Corps Prep, but applicants to serve in the Peace Corps must be U.S. citizens.
