Special Course Waiver Changes
Education Abroad has recently made two changes to the process for student enrollment in Special Course Waiver (SPCW, https://educationabroad.unl.edu/registering-classes). SPCW is a placeholder course that UNL students studying abroad are enrolled in if they are earning credit from another institution. This placeholder course keeps students in active status at UNL while they are abroad and enables their UNL scholarships and financial aid to disburse. This course has no fees or tuition associated with it.

First, students are now enrolled in the SPCW course by Education Abroad. Previously, students had been directed to self-enroll in the course. Education Abroad is now handling enrollment in order to simplify the student enrollment process.

Second, students pursuing education abroad are now required to have their full academic course load pre-evaluated by UNL transfer credit evaluators (https://educationabroad.unl.edu/academics/pre-departure-credit-evaluation) as a prerequisite for enrollment in SPCW. In order to be enrolled in SPCW by Education Abroad, students must have at least as many credit hours pre-evaluated as they plan to take abroad, though students are strongly encouraged to get any additional courses they may take pre-evaluated as well. Students provide Education Abroad with their expected academic course load abroad information as a part of their program application in the MyWorld (https://myworld.unl.edu/) application portal.

Students with questions about this process should contact Education Abroad at educationabroad@unl.edu or at 2-5358.

Previously Approved Credit
Education Abroad has recently published on its website a list of courses students have taken abroad at other institutions and how those courses have transferred back to UNL. This list contains course data going back to the 2015-2016 academic year. This list is for informational and advising purposes for students and advisors in the broader campus community. This information is not meant to promise types of credit to students or to replace the normal transfer credit evaluation process.
