CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIP AND NSEP BORED AWARDS (Learn About Opportunities to Study Critical Languages Abroad)
Wednesday, Oct. 9th, 3:30pm, Platte River North, NE Union (City Campus)
• The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program. CLS is part of a wider government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. Only certain languages are offered
• The NSEP Boren Scholarship and Fellowship programs support the study of critical languages abroad specifically in regions and countries outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The focus of the Boren is on geographical areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. There is a preference for year-long language study and there is a service requirement to work for the U.S. Department of State.

MAJOR EXPLORATION EVENT
Wednesday, Oct. 9th, 4:30-6pm, Centennial Room, NE Union (City Campus)
• Choose from a variety of major exploration sessions to attend, including an undecided student panel, how to choose a major, connecting majors and careers, and more.

UCARE INFORMATION SESSIONS
• The UCARE program allows students to work one-on-one with a faculty mentor to gain research experience and related skills. The program can enhance applications to graduate school and better prepare students for a career.
• Participants receive an annual stipend of $2,400. UCARE is open to students in all majors and disciplines.
• Upcoming application information sessions introduce students to the UCARE program and provide guidance on finding a project, approaching a prospective mentor, and writing an application proposal. The sessions are for funding in summer 2020 and the 2020-21 academic year.

LAW SCHOOL ESSAY WORKSHOP
Thursday, Oct. 10th, 4-5pm, Room 224 Love Library South
• This workshop will cover what law schools are looking for in personal statements and provide you with writing exercises to begin the process of developing your individual story in a strong and compelling manner. Co-presented with the UNL Writing Center.

• The Explore Center is offering two FREE Practice LSAT exams this semester which will be in paper/pencil format

INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP RETREAT AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS
• Inclusive Leadership Retreats are designed to help students think deeply about how to lead inclusively and to take on leadership roles — in the classroom, in university clubs or organizations, and in their communities.
• Students who participate in this retreat are prepared to apply for university leadership positions, including peer mentors and consultants, RSO positions, NSE leaders, resident assistants, and college and research ambassadors. Participants are also certified to serve as facilitators for Husker Dialogues, a campus event for first-year students held each fall.
