LUX Center for the Arts is a non-profit arts center that has been serving the Lincoln community for over 40 years. LUX is proud to offer young adults with internship opportunities designed to offer professional experience, networking opportunities and experience working in a collaborative, creative environment. These opportunities are tailored for college students and recent graduates ages 18 and up.
The 2020 Summer Internship Program will run June 1 to August 7 with an orientation on Thursday, May 28 from 1-3 pm and a final celebration on August 7 from 5-8 pm.
Internship Credit & Compensation
Internships at the LUX are unpaid positions. Some special paid opportunities may be available. Interns may arrange to receive academic credit through their school. Many colleges require 135-150 hours for internship credit, this internship is 150 hours (10 weeks at 15 hours per week). Commitment to the entire summer is preferred but applicants with limited schedules are encouraged to apply. Please detail your availability in your application to the best of your ability. We can work around trips and other work commitments on a case by case basis.

Gallery & Marketing Internship – 15 hours per week
Marketing responsibilities: Social media strategy (taking/gathering photos, writing captions, scheduling campaigns, targeting ads), publicize and upload events to Community Calendars, distribute posters/flyers, edit/organize images for database
Gallery responsibilities: Manage online store, photograph new work for the promotion, work at the front desk, answer the phone and general questions, assist with inventory, package and ship artwork.
The LUX is open 11am-5pm, Tuesday-Saturday so the available shifts are 11 am-2 pm OR 2-5 pm. Each intern's schedule can be tailored to their availability. First Friday shifts (5-8pm) will be traded for another shift the first week of June and the 2nd week of July.
Education Internship – 15 hours per week
Education interns work with our teaching artists to facilitate summer camp programs and to gain classroom and studio experience. Camps run 3 hours per day, 5 days a week. Each intern will work either from 9 am-noon or 2-5 pm each week.
Intern responsibilities include assisting teaching artists, working hands-on with students, organizing and prepping materials, and maintaining studio cleanliness during summer camps. Clay interns will also assist with firing and packaging student work for pickup. Having a broad knowledge of art materials and techniques is valuable. Having experience or a strong interest to work with children is essential.
Ceramics Studio Internship – 15 hours per week
Ceramics studio interns work Wednesday 11-4 pm, Thursdays 12-5 pm, and Fridays 1-6 pm. They primarily assist with unloading kilns, loading kilns, mixing clay, and other tasks as needed. Opportunities to learn electric kiln repair and some gas kiln building may be available. Having experience or a strong interest in ceramics is essential.
