Gallery Management meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:50 p.m.

ARTP 381 is an upper-level studio course is structured as half practical
exploration/half lecture. Workload and assignments vary
based on the needs of the Eisentrager-Howard Galleryʼs
exhibition schedule and course enrollment. The course can be
repeated up to 6-credit hours.

Students are exposed to discourse surrounding the gallery world and a variety of physical and administrative tasks associated with producing exhibitions and receptions. By the end of this class, students should have a good understanding of the diversity of the gallery world as well as basic standards for exhibition design and display.

We generally explore art handling, packing/unpacking, condition reporting,
install/de-install, vinyl, labels, display lighting, and receptions. Lecture-based work typically explores gallery types, gallery vs. museum, roles withing the gallery and museum, the art market, social media, curation, and professional practices and resources. We usually visit local galleries and art centers, host guests speakers, and end with a final project or exam.

Fall 2020 semester will be modified as needed to accommodate social distancing and any restrictions due to the effects of COVID-19.

Feel free to reach out to instructor Patricia Davis (patricia.davis@unl.edu) with any questions.
