The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students. Each lecture takes place at 5:30 p.m., and will be offered via Zoom throughout the semester. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Sasha Phyars-Burgess was born in Brooklyn, New York to Trinidadian parents, and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Bard College in 2010 with a BA in Photography and from Cornell University in 2018 with an MFA. Between her time at Bard and Cornell she worked for Larry Fink, lived in Berlin, Germany and Trinidad and Tobago, traveled throughout South America, and worked as a line cook, a studio portrait photographer in Target, and a school portrait photographer in the Lehigh Valley.

Underwritten by the Hixson-Lied Endowment with additional support from other sources, the series enriches the culture of the state by providing a way for Nebraskans to interact with luminaries in the fields of art, art history and design. Each visiting artist or scholar meets with classes, participates in critiques and gives demonstrations.
