The LGBTQA+ Center is accepting applications for a $1,000 scholarship

A one-thousand-dollar ($1,000.00) annual scholarship through the Donald Callen Freed & Larry Paul Ebmeier Fine Arts and Creative Writing Scholarship (#01153150) NU Foundation Fund is available through the LGBTQA+ Center at UNL.

The purpose of the award is to provide financial support to UNL students pursuing a major in either the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at UNL, or the Department of English, College of Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Creative Writing, and are members of a recognized student organization whose purpose is to support LGBTQA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, asexual/aromantic, allies and advocates) or have demonstrated involvement at the LGBTQA+ Center at UNL. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility and Criteria for Assessing Applications:
UNL undergraduate students who are attending UNL during the academic year that the scholarship is provided, with preference to those who demonstrate financial need as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
‣ Supportive of and engaged with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Asexual/Aromantic, Ally and Advocate community, demonstrated through involvement in a LGBTQA+ RSO or the LGBTQA+ Center.
‣ Candidates are pursuing a major in either the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at UNL, or the Department of English, College of Arts and Sciences with a concentration in Creative Writing. Demonstration of integrity, and engagement with the LGBTQA+ community.
‣ Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Applicants must submit a completed application with required supporting materials.
‣ Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
Terms: The scholarship is valid only for one academic year (fall and spring semesters). The scholarship will be $1,000.00 with a tuition credit of $500.00 being applied each semester toward the recipient’s centralized billing account. The student will be required to carry a minimum of 12 hours per semester in which the scholarship is provided. Recipients’ names will not be kept confidential as the recipient’s name is included in announcements about the scholarship.

Application Deadline:
Application and supporting material for the scholarship are to be submitted by May 15th. The scholarship will be awarded for the upcoming academic year. Information will be kept strictly confidential (except for the recipient’s name).

Applications can be obtained from and returned to pat.tetreault@unl.edu. Applicants will be notified of results by August 2nd. All responses will be kept confidential although the recipient’s name will be made public.
