Artist Israel Carranza is showcasing his Abstract Aztec painting exhibition at the LUX Center for the Arts. His work is focused on decolonizing the Arts and amplifying visibility to indigenous people. Carranza is also committed to educating youth about Aztec culture, myths, and art, so they can understand that Indigenous people had an important role and influence on this continent.
Carranza is inviting people to explore the exhibition and participate in a tour focused on the style and meaning behind the paintings and how decolonization of the Arts can empower through representation. He will be offering group tours to groups of at most 12 people on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. until October 23rd.
The tours can be in English, Spanish, or both languages. Please contact Carranza if you would like to schedule a tour at least two days in advance.
Carranza will also be hosting a virtual interview on Wednesday, September 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm about his experience as an artist of color, equity in the arts, and decolonization for empowerment. You can register at bit.ly/abstractaztec.
The second reception for the Abstract Aztec exhibition will take place on Friday, October 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
