The International Quilt Museum is seeking students interested in education, art, design, textiles or history for volunteer docent roles at the museum in November, December, January and February. In this volunteer position, student docents will lead tours for fourth grade students from Lincoln Public Schools, providing fun and educational experiences for children from many backgrounds. This year, volunteers will have the opportunity to help students explore quilts made by Native American quiltmakers from the Hopi Mesas in Arizona, examine details in the colorful and elaborately embellished firework and landscape quilts of Terri Hancock Mangat, and walk through history with the quilts of Modern Meets Modern, creating connections between art and STEM topics with quilts made a century apart.

The tours are scheduled at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, Tuesday through Friday, beginning November 2nd. Each tour is 45-minutes to 1 hour in length, and schedule dates are flexible. Volunteers will get the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the museum and build strong education and communication skills. Training in exhibition content, activities and tour management is provided in advance, with curator-led presentations scheduled for 9:00 AM on Friday October 15th and Friday October 22nd. Additional trainings can be scheduled as necessary. Please contact Education Coordinator Lauren Holt at lauren.holt@unl.edu for more information.
