Sheldon Museum of Art seeks a paid intern to do collection research

The Sheldon Museum of Art is hiring a Collection Researcher for the Spring 2022 semester. This is a grant-funded, paid internship opportunity.

The museum will select 100 objects from the collection and provide in-depth information for each item, such as catalogue essays, artist and scholar videos, publication and exhibition history, and artist correspondence. In tandem with community outreach, the museum can use this project as a building block to generate robust tools and resources for K-12 educators, customized curricula for higher education instructors, and engagement opportunities for the public.

The collection researcher will collect data from the following sources: object files, existing Sheldon scholarship, on-line resources and directed research to support the addition of robust data for 50 Sheldon works in the first phase of a multi-year initiative. Direction will come from bi-monthly meetings and curatorial, collections, and engagement. The collection researcher will work with the chief curator, registrar, and assistant curator of exhibitions.

Successful candidates must be able to work independently, take direction and be a team player. They must demonstrate strong communication and time management skills. Current student in art, art history, design, digital humanities, or a related field preferred but not required.
