Don’t Miss This Week’s Artist Talks and Exhibitions

This week is packed with events, including visiting artist talks by Matt Belk and Louie Palu, and exhibition openings such as Byron Anway’s “Landscape and Memory” and the Eisentrager-Howard’s “A Memorable Toast.” Be sure to mark your calendar for these highlights and other upcoming events.

Events Happening This Week
• Oct. 16: Matt Belk, contemporary wildlife painter and School of Art, Art History & Design alumnus, will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.
• Oct. 16: Andrew Culp, scholar from CalArts who specializes in aesthetic theory, will be presenting a Humanities on the Edge lecture at 5:30 p.m. at the Sheldon Auditorium.
• Oct. 17: Louie Palu, photographer and filmmaker, will deliver a lecture on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.
• Oct 17: Byron Anway, Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in the School of Art, Art History, and Design, will host an opening reception for his exhibition “Landscape and Memory,” at Kiechel Fine Art on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

Other Upcoming Events
• Oct. 14: “A Memorable Toast,” a group exhibition at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery presented by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Art, Art History & Design, opens at noon. The exhibition features work from the 20 graduate students in the Master of Fine Arts program.
• Oct. 15: Katie Anania, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, will officially release her first book, Out of Paper: Drawing, Environment, and the Body in 1960s America.
• Nov 1: MFA Open Studios and raffle in Richards Hall and the Woods Art Building from 5-8 p.m., hosted by graduate students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) studio art program.
• Nov. 12: Holly Willis, chair of the Media Arts+Practice Division at the University of Southern California and co-director for the AI for Media & Storytelling (AIMS) initiative at the USC Center for Generative AI and Society, will present a lecture at at 5:30 p.m. at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. This event is part of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture series and co-sponsored by the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts and The Awareness Lab.
• Nov. 13: Steve Anderson will deliver a Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture at 5 p.m. at the Ross, followed by a sneak preview of his new film, “Reality Friction.” Co-sponsored by the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, The Awareness Lab and the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.
