Still from Animated Film: The Diary of Michael Shiner (2024)

Michael Burton, Assistant Professor and alumnus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Art, Art History, and Design, will host Digital Humanities Afternoon tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20th, at 3:30 p.m. in Regency B-C in the Nebraska Union. Burton will present the process behind producing Animating History from concept to distribution.

Burton will showcase the newly launched Animating History website, developed with CDRH staff Kaci Nash and Erin Chambers. The website describes the project:

"Animating History is a project between historians, writers, and artists telling the stories of American history through animated films. Our mission is to connect the past with the present, fostering a deeper understanding of our nation's heritage.

Knowing that education has the potential to shape how people understand history, we have collaborated with educators to develop curriculum guides for each of our films. These guides leverage our interdisciplinary approach to enhance learning and engagement."

In line with this mission, Burton will also share new educational resources created in collaboration with high school faculty teaching history, media arts, and English. The session will include a discussion on how interdisciplinary collaboration drives impactful outcomes, and attendees are invited to provide feedback on curriculum development.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the process behind and the future of Animating History!
