Two UNL alumni, Nathan Murray and Maddie Hinrichs, are presenting solo exhibitions at the Lux Center for the Arts this September.

Nathan Murray: Undercurrents
Sept. 5-Oct. 26, 2025
Identity is shaped by both visible and invisible forces—ethnicity, lived experiences, and unspoken narratives. Undercurrents explores these deep layers of identity through a series of ceramic busts that honor individuals and their stories. Each sculpture captures more than a likeness; it is a vessel for history, resilience, and cultural memory. Murray’s work amplifies voices that are often overlooked, celebrating the strength found in personal and collective histories and highlighting the intersectionality of identity across race, gender, class, and lived experience.

Maddie Hinrichs: Lead Me to Loose Me
Sept. 5-27, 2025
Hinrich's latest series challenges perceptions of two-dimensional space, forcing viewers to consider the degradation of images and their source. By fusing embroidery and oil paint, she explores the psychology of interiors through projections of domestic spaces layered into her own apartment. These works capture surreal intersections while maintaining balance, blurring the boundaries between realism and surrealism, textile and paint, dreams and memory.
