Robert Bubp, Associate Professor of Foundation, Painting and Drawing at Wichita State University, will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to UNL each semester to enhance the education of students.
Bubp’s current research explores traditions and local politics of street vending. He has participated in more than 60 solo, two-person and group exhibitions across the U.S., including community-based installations at the Indianapolis Art Center; Salina Art Center in Salina, Kansas; and Kspace Contemporary in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Bubp’s work has been noted and reviewed in numerous publications, including ArtPapers, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Art in America. His work is held in numerous collections and is permanently on view at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas.
Bubp has been the recipient of several awards for his artwork, teaching and scholarship, including the 2005 Kansas Artist Fellowship for Interdisciplinary or Performance Art from the Kansas Arts Commission; the 2009 Excellence in Creative Activity Award at Wichita State University; and the College of Fine Arts Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006 and 2015.
Bubp received his Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing, painting and printmaking from Georgia State University, and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia.
Underwritten by the Hixson-Lied Endowment with additional support from other sources, the series enriches the culture of the state by providing a way for Nebraskans to interact with luminaries in the fields of art, art history and design. Each visiting artist or scholar spends one to three days on campus to meet with classes, participate in critiques and give demonstrations. Every visiting artist or scholar gives at least one major lecture that is free and open to the public.
