Jacqueline Mattingly is the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts’ new Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
"I'm looking forward to having Jackie join the college administrative team," said Chuck O'Connor, endowed dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. "She will be instrumental, at least initially on an interim basis, in first defining this brand-new position and then figuring out how we can better serve students in the long term."
Her duties, which she began on Jan. 6, focus on students, student diversity and inclusion, success, retention, and advising. Among her duties will be student affairs (appeals, petitions, problems), Hixson-Lied student grant administration, Miller/Oldfield scholarship review, and academic distinction and thesis review. In addition, she will oversee our student advisory boards and the college’s Academic Distinctions and Awards and Grading Appeals committees. She will also serve on the College Recruitment Committee. She will review college advising and implement changes as necessary, serve as our Title IX Responsible Employee (students) and assist the dean in responding to student mental health concerns. Mattingly will retain half her duties in the Glenn Korff School of Music.
Prior to arriving at Nebraska, Mattingly served as Director of Instrumental Activities at the University of North Carolina Asheville, where she directed the String Ensemble, Concert Band and Pep Band, and taught applied horn. She earned a Doctorate of Music in horn performance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, a Master of Music in horn from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Music from Brandon University in Canada.
Christopher Marks will continue to serve as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. His duties will focus on curriculum, promotion/tenure process facilitation, faculty research, Title IX, Hixson-Lied faculty grant administration, college governance and administrative processes. He will serve on the Associate Deans for Research group, Academic Technologies Advisory Committee, University-Wide Assessment Committee, Academic Solutions Council and Graduate College Advisory Council, and oversee the Faculty Research Travel Committee.
He holds degrees from University of Richmond (B.M., piano), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (M.M., piano and M.M., organ), and the Eastman School of Music (D.M.A., organ).
