• Sept. 1: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Ana Maria Ortiz, painter and muralist. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Hailing from Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, and currently living in Houston, Ortiz started painting on old wood pieces with tempera paint as a little girl in her dad’s wood shop. Getting into the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez, she studied art and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science.

• Sept. 4: Theatrix presents a 24-hour Play Festival Performance. 8 p.m. Lab Theatre, 3rd floor of the Temple Building. Free and open to the public. Introducing Theatrix’s fourth annual 24-Hour Play Festival. Theatrix, the student-led theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, starts the season each year by hosting this event where teams consisting of actors, directors, playwrights and stage managers work together to create an original 10-minute play in only 24 hours on September 3-4. No prior experience is necessary and all majors can participate. This is an excellent way to meet fellow ensemble members and upperclassmen within the Hixson-Lied College and provides students with the first opportunity to perform at the Johnny Carson School. The first meeting is Sept. 3 from 5-6 p.m. in the Lab Theatre. Rehearsals are Sept. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Tech runs from 4-6 p.m. with the performance at 8 p.m. For more information on Theatrix, visit their website at https://www.unl.edu/theatrix/.

• Sept. 9: Faculty Recital: Diane Barger, clarinet. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free and open to the public. The concert will also be live webcast. Visit https://music.unl.edu/webcasts the day of the performance for the link. Barger's recital is titled "Nattmara." Barger will be joined by Mark Clinton, piano; Karen Becker, cello; Hye-Won Hwang, dancer/choreographer; and sloDance, featuring Artistic Director Susan Ourada with Katie Heckman, Hwang, Beth Danielle Jensen, Melissa Templeton and Kathryn Voigt.

• Sept. 17: Faculty Recital: Suna Gunther with UNL Voice Faculty and Alumni, including Kevin Hanrahan, William Shomos, Jamie Reimer Seaman, Marques Garrett, Alisa Belflower, Amy Guevara, Thomas Gunther and Madeline Rogers. 7:30 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. • Sept. 25: Viola Bash. All-day. Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119 and 132.

• Sept. 27: Retirement Celebration for Julie Hagemeier. 4-6 p.m. Lobby of the Temple Building, 12th and R streets. Free and open to the public. Under our current campus COVID-19 safety protocols, those who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear face coverings indoors, but are strongly encouraged to do so. Anyone who is unvaccinated is expected to wear a face covering indoors. If you’re not able to make it in person, please consider sending us a video greeting that we can share during the celebration. Please upload your video at https://go.unl.edu/julievideo. Hagemeier recently retired as General Manager of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film after more than 25 years of service.

• Sept. 28: Guest Artist: Greg Sauer, cello. 7:30 p.m. Westbrook Recital Hall Rm. 119. Free and open to the public. Sauer is Professor of Cello at the Florida State University. A native of Davenport, Iowa, Sauer attended the Eastman School of Music and the New England Conservatory. Sauer has recorded for MSR Classics, Harmonia Mundi, Albany, and Mark Records.
