• Oct. 26: Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture: Dr. Christina Hult-Lewis. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Hult-Lewis is the interim pictorial curator at the Bancroft Library, the special collections library at the University of California Berkeley.

• Oct. 30: Concordia String Trio. 3 p.m. Westbrook Recital Hall Rm. 119. Free and open to the public.

• Oct. 30: Carson Lecture featuring Pat Hazell and Teresa Ganzel. 3:30 p.m. Swanson Auditorium in the Nebraska Union. Free and open to the public, but free tickets are required due to limited space. Visit https://go.unl.edu/carsonlecture for tickets. Omaha native Hazell is a comedian and was a frequent guest on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." Ganzel was one of the Mighty Carson Art Players. The Carson Lecture Series was created to connect students and the community with a speaker on campus who worked with Johnny Carson or was influenced by his work in television.

• Nov. 3-6: Theatrix presents "Perfect Arrangement" by Topher Payne. Performances are Nov. 3-4 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 6 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, 3rd floor Temple Building. • Nov. 6: The Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase presents a Q&A with singer, songwriter and actor Andrea von Kampen, following a 1:30 p.m. screening of "A Chance Encounter." The film is directed by Carson School alumnus Alexander Jeffery (B.A./B.F.A. 2011). The film runs Oct. 28-Nov. 10 at The Ross. Two Americans, one an aspiring poet and the other an established folk musician, cross paths in the scenic, coastal town of Taormina, Sicily. Their instant chemistry sparks collaboration, leading to an unexpected, weeklong writer's retreat at a beautiful villa in the Sicilian countryside. As they immerse themselves in the local culture, they challenge each other to express their thorniest secrets, growing closer all the while.

• Nov. 10: Chamberfest Concert 1. 7:30 p.m. Westbrook Recital Hall Rm. 119. Free and open to the public. Groups formed at the Glenn Korff School of Music perform at ChamberFest.

• Nov. 11: MFA Open Studios. 6-8 p.m. Richards Hall and Woods Art Building. Free and open to the public. Open Studios is an opportunity for the public to explore the creative studios of artists in the MFA program, who are working in ceramics, painting/drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and photography. Visitors will have the chance to see developing artworks in progress, to ask questions about processes and ideas and to make personal connections with artists whose work moves them. A raffle will also be available with the drawing held at 8:15 p.m.

• Nov. 11 and 13: UNL Opera presents "The Marriage of Figaro." Performances are Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. • Nov. 15-20: Nebraska Repertory Theatre presents "Death of a Salesman." Howell Theatre. For tickets and performance times, visit https://nebraskarep.org. During a consequential 24 hours, Willy Loman reflects on his life as a husband,
father and traveling salesman. Truth and lies collide as Willy tries to reconcile the optimism of his youth with his unfulfilled dreams. As his career crumbles all around him, he places his last hope of success in his two sons. Arthur Miller’s classic play depicts the tragic cost of chasing the American Dream. Directed by Jacqueline Thompson. Features Ron Himes, the founder and producing director of the St. Louis Black Repertory Company as Willy Loman and Christina Kirk, executive director of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre and director of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, as Linda Loman.

• Nov. 30: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture: Aaron Spangler. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Spangler is a sculptor and printmaker best known for monumental carved wooden sculptures and for contemporizing the traditional art of bas relief.

• Nov. 20: Moran Woodwind Quintet. 3 p.m. Westbrook Recital Hall Rm. 119. Free and open to the public. The concert will also be live webcast. One of the most active and visible quintets in the Midwest, the Moran Woodwind Quintet is the resident faculty woodwind quintet of the Glenn Korff School of Music. Formed in 1986 and named for the late John Moran, director of the UNL School of Music, the Quintet has toured extensively. The Quintet has recorded three CDs for Crystal Records, including two CDs featuring the music of the early 20th-century German composer Theodor Blumer and one with American woodwind quintets (music of Heiden, Higdon, Murdock, and Lieuwen). The Quintet has also recorded on the Coronet label.

• Nov. 28: UNL/LPS String Project Performance. 6 p.m. Kimball Recital Hall. Free and open to the public. The UNL/LPS String Project is a joint effort between the Glenn Korff School of Music at UNL and Lincoln Public Schools. It is an after-school teacher-training program that gives children the opportunity to begin playing a stringed instrument before they start in their school. It also affords the same opportunity to students who are home-schooled or who attend private or parochial schools that may not have string programs, as well as students who live in outlying areas.
