The UNL Clay Club and UNL Fine Art Photo Club will each be hosting their winter sales on Dec. 7-8 in Richards Hall on UNL's city campus.
The UNL Clay Club will host its Annual Winter Ceramics Sale and Raffle on Friday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale is held in Richards Hall, room 118 on UNL's city campus.
Works of ceramic art created by undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni will be for sale. The work includes functional pottery, vessels and sculpture, and represents a broad range of aesthetics, techniques and concepts.
In addition to the sale, there will be a raffle of work donated by students and faculty. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased on Friday or Saturday; it is not necessary to be present to win. Winners will be drawn at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The UNL Clay Club is a student-run organization that raises money to support events such as lectures and workshops given by nationally recognized ceramic artists and critics. The organization also facilitates student attendance at the annual National Conference for Education in the Ceramic Arts and other programs. The Winter and Spring Ceramic Sales help the students raise money to support these activities.
The UNL Fine Art Photo Club is having its annual print sale concurrently on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. The sale will take place in Richards Hall Rm. 121 on the UNL city campus. Refreshments will be served on Dec. 7 from 5-7 p.m. for the First Friday art walk.
Prints in the sale will be unmatted and unframed, but placed in protective sleeves for transport. All work in the sale is made by members of the club. Photo books, silver gelatin prints, archival pigment prints, as well as alternative process prints will be available. All prints are priced under $60. Cash is appreciated.
”Work in progress” prints donated by 2012 Hixson-Lied visiting artists, faculty, and photography graduate students will also be available in a raffle. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.
The UNL Photo Club is a student organization founded by students in the Department of Art and Art History’s studio art program. The club was formed in 2011 under the advisory of Professor of Art Dana Fritz.
Proceeds from the sale support club members’ participation in national and regional Society for Photographic Education conferences. These conferences provide opportunities for students to interact with other students and faculty from around the country, as well as major figures in the field of photography. Students can participate in portfolio critiques, open portfolio sharing, lectures, demonstrations and workshops as well as visits to galleries and museums in the host city. Proceeds also support participation in 16x16x16, an exhibition of student work that travels among six universities and colleges in the spring semester of each year.
