Phil Redfern has accepted a position with UNL’s Information Technology Services, where he will serve as the campus’s first Enterprise Apple Administrator.

In his new role, Redfern will continue to develop campus- and NU-systemwide services to support the full range of Apple hardware and software, including the JAMF Casper Suite client management system that he pioneered for the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. His last day with the College was Aug. 15.

Over his nine years with the college, Redfern has taken on a variety of roles, beginning as a student technology assistant in his freshman year in 2005. Following his graduation with a BFA in Art in December 2008, he became a full-time staff member. He has led our individual tech support, consulted on technology-infused classroom planning, and developed and managed major server-based systems used across the college for file sharing, printing, database management, file backup and client management.

“It’s been a great opportunity to work with the faculty and staff of the Hixson-Lied College,” Redfern said. “I have always strived to improve services that support the College. Now I’ll have the opportunity to share my knowledge and expertise in Apple Systems with everyone, benefiting the whole NU system.”

Redfern had been working part-time with UNL ITS since October to implement the new UNL Casper Suite at UNL. With his move there to full-time, the Hixson-Lied ITS office will run a search to fill the open position of Systems Coordinator. In the meantime, UNL ITS is working with the College to identify part-time assistance during the transition.
