• Nov. 2: Lecture and book signing by Professor of Art Dana Fritz. 5:30 p.m. Sheldon Museum of Art. Fritz’s photographs explore the world’s largest enclosed landscapes. A new book on the series, “Terraria Gigantica: The World under Glass,” (University of New Mexico Press) has recently been published. Fritz will present a free public lecture followed by a book signing.

• Nov. 8: Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture by Bonna Wescoat. 5:30 p.m. Richards Hall Rm. 15. Free and open to the public. Wescoat is the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Art History at Emory University. She holds a PhD and M. Phil. from Oxford University, an MA from the University of London, and AB from Smith College. Her research interests are ancient Greek art and architecture, particularly sacred architecture, and digital modeling to investigate the interaction of landscape, architecture and ritual experience. Her work now centers on the Sanctuary of the Great Gods on Samothrace, where she has directed excavations.

Sparkling with virtuosic singing and playful humor, this boisterous comedy pits the miserly Don Pasquale against his nephew Ernesto and Ernesto’s sweetheart, the crafty young Norina. University of Nebraska Opera will be joined by Peter Strummer, who will be playing the title role of Don Pasquale. Strummer is the 2017 Ariel Bybee Endowed Visiting Professor of Opera.

• Nov. 15: Moran Woodwind Quintet. 7:30 p.m. Westbrook Rm. 119. Free. The program features the world premiere of a new work commissioned by the Glenn Korff School of Music from Scott McAllister, professor of composition at Baylor University. Titled "OK Quintet," the work is inspired by the album OK Computer by the English rock band, Radiohead. One movement uses the harmonies of the group’s song “Creep," and the final movement uses rhythms from hip-hop and dubstep. Also on the program are a tuneful work from the standard repertoire by Franz Danzi, and the big, Romantic Quintet, op. 52, of 20th-century German composer Theodor Blumer, recorded by the Moran Woodwind Quintet in 1994 for Crystal Records.

The quintet is dedicated to the performance of original repertoire works and new music for brass quintet.
