Printmaker Miguel A. Aragón and painter Alexander Ross will present the final spring Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lectures on April 24-25.

Aragón will present his lecture on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 14. Ross will present his lecture on Thursday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. Both lectures are free and open to the public.

Aragón is a printmaker whose works explore subjects of violence, transient and/or persistent memory, perception and the multiple; he uses erasure as language through the use of processes that are reductive in nature.

Aragón’s work is included in various private and public collections such as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Minneapolis Institute of Art and the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, among others. He lives and works in New York City, where he is an assistant professor in printmaking at the City University of New York (CUNY) College of Staten Island.

Having received a residency award from the 2018 Boston Printmakers North American Print Biennial, he is in Lincoln as an artist in residence at Constellation Studios from April 18-26.

Ross is represented by David Nolan Gallery in New York. His awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, an Art Production Fund Fellowship, residency at the Musée Claude Monet in Giverny, France, and an Artist Fellowship Grant from the Tesuque Foundation.

His work has been included in major group exhibitions including “Remote Viewing” at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and an exhibition titled “Our Grotesque,” which was curated by Robert Storr for the 2004 Santa Fe Biennial. Storr also wrote a feature article about Ross’s work that appeared in “ArtForum” magazine in 2003.

Ross received his B.F.A. with distinction from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.

The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

Underwritten by the Hixson-Lied Endowment with additional support from other sources, the series enriches the culture of the state by providing a way for Nebraskans to interact with luminaries in the fields of art, art history and design. Each visiting artist or scholar spends one to three days on campus to meet with classes, participate in critiques and give demonstrations.
