Graduate students in the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Master of Arts (MA) in Art History programs in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will be hosting an Open Studios event on Friday, Nov. 5 from 5-7 p.m. in Woods Art Building and Richards Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
Open Studios is an opportunity for the public to explore the creative studios of nearly 30 artists in the MFA program, who are working in ceramics, painting/drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and photography. Visitors will have the chance to see developing artworks in progress, to ask questions about processes and ideas and to make personal connections with artists whose work moves them. Students in the graduate art history program will also be available to discuss their research and work.
“Because of Covid, we couldn’t have an Open Studios event last year, so we are trying to start that tradition up again and keep it going for many years to come,” said Eddy Aldana, a graduate student in photography. “Everyone is really talented and dedicated, and we have a really great group of grads. This Open Studios event is a great chance for the public to meet us, see what we are all working on, and see what the UNL art and art history graduate programs are all about.”
Richards Hall is located at the corner of Stadium Drive and T streets on the university’s city campus. Woods Art Building is directly west of Sheldon Museum of Art.
