UNL alums Sadé Ayorinde and Chadric Harms have curated Black at Work: The Color Black in Quilts from the Collection at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln.
Black at Work examines how quiltmakers represented in the International Quilt Museum collection have utilized the color black as a visual or conceptual element in their textiles. It positions black as a serious and active representational tool with the power to change or enhance the way we see, perceive, and understand the world around us.
Curators Sadé Ayorinde and Chadric Harms asked students at Lincoln Public School’s Arts and Humanities focus program to respond to the exhibition and create work of their own. Fifteen student works are included in the gallery.
Join staff and volunteers on February 3rd, 2023 at IQM's February First Friday event which features the exhibition Black at Work.
Chadric Harms will lead a discussion of the Black at Work project at 5:30 pm.
