Student Unemployment Benefits

Subject: Important Message from Human Resources Regarding UNL Student Unemployment Benefits

Date: April 15, 2014

A recent State of Nebraska Department of Labor unemployment decision has brought into question whether student workers are eligible for unemployment. To clarify this issue, student workers need to be aware that student worker positions at UNL are only available to students who are enrolled at the University of Nebraska and working for UNL is a form of merit based student financial assistance provided by the University of Nebraska.

We have created a form and a process to facilitate this understanding. http://go.unl.edu/6rf8

Effective May 1, 2014, any new student worker hired by your college/department must sign this form before they can begin work. This form must be attached to the PAF and/or I-9 form that goes to the respective Payroll Offices. Payroll will not process the student worker appointment if the form is not attached.

This summer we will follow-up with a process to collect forms from returning active students workers.
