Amy Schmidt, Suat Irmak, and Xin Qiao were among five engineering researchers who were granted funding from the Nebraska Environmental Trust for 2020. Amy received funding for a new project "Transforming manure and cedar mulch from "waste" to "worth – Part II." Suat and Xin received funding for continued projects from 2019, "Water use and soil-water storage effect of individual and mixed cover species and impacts on soil quality variables" and "Beneficial impact of injected air into a subsurface drip irrigation system on plant growth and uptake of emerging antibiotics using runoff from a feedlot," respectfully. Hyun-Seob Song was recently featured in Sceiftic Reports for his help in researching how mechanistic and data-driven network modeling can advance soil science with dry-associated genes being central. Read about how the integrated network modeling approach defines key metabolic responses of soil microbiomes to perturbations here.
