As part of a seminar series organized by Forrest Kievit, Rebecca Wachs will present Clinically Relevant Solutions for the
Treatment of Low Back Pain this Wednesday, March 15th in 112 Chase Hall.
Dr. Wachs’ vision is to develop novel interventions for the treatment of low back pain using her diverse skills in orthopaedics, neural engineering, and clinical translation. Low back pain is an epidemic that will aff ect the majority of people in their lifetime. Degeneration of the intervertebral disc correlates with low back pain, however not all disc degeneration is painful. Dr. Wachs seeks to create novel biomaterial interventions to prevent and reverse pain, regardless of the degenerative state. Th is work has the potential to shift the treatment paradigm from disc regeneration to painless disc degeneration.
