We have two new post-docs who have recently joined BSE. Please welcome Dr. Jian Li and Dr. Sarah Romereim!
Dr. Jian Li is a new postdoctoral research associate working under the supervision of Drs. Wilkins and Subbiah. Originally from China, Jian moved to the US in 2009 to begin working on his master's degree at Oklahoma State University. In May 2016, he received his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (also known as Virginia Tech) in Civil Engineering. My research background is mainly focus on environmental sustainability, including anaerobic digestion, renewable energy harvesting from wastewater, nutrients recovery, and the nexus of food, energy and water. He says, "Joining BSE at UNL offers me a great opportunity to devote my knowledge on sustainable agriculture field."
Dr. Sarah Romereim has recently joined the Biological Systems Engineering department as a post-doctoral researcher shared between the labs of Dr. Rebecca Wachs and Dr. Forrest Kievit. She received her B.S. in Biology from Baker University and her Ph.D. in Developmental Biology from Northwestern University. Her doctoral work was on growth plate cartilage biology in the lab of Dr. Andrew Dudley who is now an associate professor at UNMC. For the last couple of years, Sarah was at UNL as a postdoctoral researcher in Animal Science working for Dr. Andrea Cupp. Sarah’s research interests include the interaction of cells and their microenvironment, cell behavior, and cell identity. She has had the opportunity to explore questions relating to all of those topics in the growth plate cartilage of mice and chickens (in Dr. Dudley’s lab), in the ovarian follicles of cows (in Dr. Cupp’s lab), and now in the intervertebral disc with Dr. Wachs and in the brain with Dr. Kievit.
