Doctoral student Meetpal Kukal received the Hardin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship for 2017.

"This fellowship, which is in appreciation of the plant physiological aspects of my Ph.D. research with Dr. Suat Irmak, provides immense encouragement and support for my program," Kukal said. "One of our research aims is to quantify the changes in several plant physiological and biophysical variables due to changes in environmental and stress conditions in four major crops."

The $3,000 student award carries an additional $2,000 that goes to the student's advisor to pay for travel and other operational needs of the student's program.

Former chancellor Clifford Hardin established the endowment for the award to support outstanding graduate students doing research in plant physiology.

"I am very happy to be recognized for my efforts and engaging in high-quality research activities," Kukal said.
