Workplace Wellness: COVID-19 VS. THE FLU & THE COMMON COLD

COVID vs. FLU
COVID vs. FLU

Typically, this time of year signals the start of cold and flu season, and we tend to focus a little bit more intentionally on staying well as the weather changes, and we move toward the holiday season.

While getting a flu shot, frequent hand washing, and immune-system-boosting behaviors are always recommended, a short-term bout of feeling under the weather between fall and spring is often considered normal and to be expected.

However, there is nothing normal about 2020. We all have been experiencing eight months of constant heightened concern over the health of our loved ones and ourselves while living through an ongoing global pandemic. Due to this, cold and flu season and the necessity of monitoring potential illness symptoms have taken on a whole new dimension within an already crowded smorgasbord of daily stress.

With COVID-19 precautions dominating everyday life, how do we know if our children have a simple sniffle or something more serious? How do we know if we have a seasonal cold or if we are COVID-19 contagious? When should we make a doctor's appointment? Schedule a COVID-19 test?

The University Health Center understands the probability of these questions and has provided these helpful resources.
