Archived Story: This article is part of our newsletter archives. It has been preserved for reference, but the information may no longer be current.

Rules allow you to move, flag, and respond to email messages automatically.

The easiest and most common rule to create is one that allows you to move an item from a certain sender or with certain words in the subject line to another folder. You can create this rule directly from a message you've already received.

Notes: After you make a rule on your computer or Outlook.com, it's saved and applies on other Outlook platforms. If you belong to a listserv, consider replying to the sender, rather than “reply all.”
