Job Title: Graduate Research Assistant on the Evaluation Team of the Child Protection and Safety New Worker Training grant

Where do you hail from?My address growing up was in Westphalia, Missouri. Technically, I grew up on a farm on the outskirts of Folk, Missouri, but it’snot actually considered a town.

What is it they say you do?I work to document, distribute, and evaluate any assessments and evaluations completed by new worker trainees. Recently, I have been focused on building assessment content in the training online classroom and providing light technical assistance with the online classroom.

Who are your early influences? My Grandma Donna was probably my earliest influence. She always encouraged me to continue to read and learn new things and even gave me many books in my childhood that I still enjoy and treasure today. She also fostered my love for rescuing animals, and her compassion and kindness continues to inspire me every day.

What is your passion/where do you hope to be in 5 years? My passion is my research. My work focuses on understanding the associations between parent-child relationships and adolescent and young adult risk taking. Thus far, my research has focused on alcohol use, but I would like to eventually expand my focus to also include sexual risk taking. Recently, I’ve been particularly interested in understanding the similarities and differences between mother-adolescent and father-adolescent relationships. In 5 years, I hope to be in the infancy of a career as a faculty member at a university or a research center.

Family life/hobbies:My partner, John, and I have two wonderful dogs, Widget and Pixel, and a cat, Data. We enjoy playing video games, going to the movies, and going on walks together. I also enjoy crocheting, needlework, reading, and watching history documentaries. The quotation I live my life by is...“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” –Marie Curie
