Helping a person may not change the world, but it will change the world for that person.

Every one of us has been there and knows how a small act of kindness can literally change our world for today, tomorrow, and sometimes a lifetime.

This year, during the Holidays, the CCFL Fun Committee is providing each of us with the opportunity to positively change the world for two families in our community by giving. The CCFL Holiday Challenge for Positive Change is just that. Put your “change” into the CCFL Holiday Change Pot and we will be able to make this year’s holidays life changing for two needy families in Lincoln.

Our goal is to raise $700 by December 1st. With $700 CCFL will be able to:
1) Help Julie pay her December’s rent on her modest home. Julie recently had surgery and suffered neurological damage which prohibits her from returning to work. The surgeon wants to try and repair the damage however there is the risk of paralysis. Julie is choosing not to take that risk but is thereby forfeiting her workman’s compensation. Julie’s two daughters are putting their lives on hold to help out their mom; the 17 year old in High School has stopped extracurricular activities in drama and Key clubs to work part-time and her 20 year old has cut back to part time at SECC in order to work part-time. Julie is currently working with Vocational Rehabilitation to find alternative work that does not require her to be on her feet. Julie’s rent is $475. CCFL, let’s pay Julie’s rent for the Holidays!

2) Help Juana fix her leaking water heater and front door which does not fully close. Juana is a mom with three kids under 10 and whose significant other recently left her and the children. Juana recently hired a contractor to fix issues in the bathroom in their trailer home. After the “repairs” Juana’s water heater is now leaking and the contractor requires another $300 to fix it. The front door on the trailer is also in need of repair as it does not close properly with air leaking in. Both of the issues also are increasing her electric bill. A local agency is going to help Juana fix both issues but is seeking funding for parts to do so at just over $100. CCFL, let’s pay for the $100 in parts and also help with another $125 to pay for a part of Juana’s lot fee!

We have 3 weeks for each us to pitch in change to change the lives of two families in our community. Stacie will be the keeper of the “Change Pot” and collecting donations. The Fun Committee will be reporting on progress toward meeting our $700 goal.

Walt, an ex officio, emeritus, and ad hominem member of the Fun Committee adds:
“Hey, CHANGE in this context is “change” from Sawbucks and Jacksons, not NICKELS AND DIMES!” and “These people are REAL not some made up agglomeration of 27 different situations and hypotheticals!”
