This week’s Word on the Street question was:
In honor of Veteran’s Day: Are you a Veteran? Is someone close to you a Veteran? What branch of the military was served?

I’m not, but my dad is a veteran. He served in the air force and flew fighter jets like the f16. A regular flyboy. –Matt Carlson

I am not a veteran, but we have many in our family that are. My stepdad was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He is a disabled Veteran because of injuries he received while over there, both visible and invisible. Porkchop’s uncle and cousin both served in 2 wars. Nathan’s Godmother served for many years and was deployed in Iraq for a year across from a burn pit that made her very ill and continues to wreak havoc on her life on a daily basis. We love all of them and all other service members both currently active and Veterans! Their sacrifices are just incredible. –Wendy Kahland

My husband and my second to the oldest son are veterans. My husband served in the Gulf war, and my son Daniel served in Kuwait. Both were in the Army. My oldest son, A.J. is also in the Army and is scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan in January 2019. Although not a veteran, my youngest son is also in the Army and is currently stationed at Ft. Meyers VA in the Honor guard there. Attached are photos of each of them. –Joyce Starke

My father and his brother both were in the army and served in Japan at the very end of WWII. My dad was an artist and spent the rest of his service designing medals, pins and publications. My grandfather was a chief petty officer in WWI and WWII. Military service has always been respected in our family. –Mary Bothwell
