Join Quilt House for a Lecture on 'The Engineer Who Could'

International Quilt Study Center & Museum Assistant Curator of Exhibitions Jonathan Gregory will present "The Importance of Being Ernest" on Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Quilt House, 33rd and Holdrege streets.

Ernest B. Haight, a Nebraska farmer and trained engineer, generated quite a buzz with his quilts in the groovy 1960s and 1970s, not simply because he was a man making quilts, but because his techniques were innovative and his quilts were bold and surprising. Quiltmaking gave him a buzz, too, keeping his life balanced through the highs and lows of life, even in his senior years when his health and vitality declined.

Jonathan Gregory, curator of “The Engineer Who Could: Ernest Haight’s Half Century of Quiltmaking,” an exhibition at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum, draws from extensive study of Haight’s quilts, correspondence, and diaries for this free talk.

The lecture, which will be held in the Reception Hall, is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, it will be broadcast live at http://www.quiltstudy.org/exhibitions/online_exhibitions/eh/ernestlecture.html. A podcast will also be available at a later date.
